Brice Marden - Lévy Gorvy

Brice Marden

Brice Marden

Over the course of his fifty-plus year career, Brice Marden developed a subtle yet lyrical style of abstract minimalism. Born in Bronxville, New York, in 1938, the artist studied fine art at Boston University and Yale University. He had traveled extensively, allowing him to incorporate the influences of numerous different cultures, including those of China and Greece, into his work. Marden’s most well-known compositional tropes, in both drawing and painting, include a variety of muted monochromes, to which he eventually began adding colorful tangled lines. The artist’s first solo museum show was a retrospective at the Guggenheim in 1975. Since then Marden has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions at venues such as the Dia Center for the Arts, New York and the Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge, MA. In 2006, the artist was the subject of a retrospective presentation at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
