The following year she began to work on one of her most renowned series, the Untitled Film Stills, 1977-80, which feature the artist enacting various stereotypically “feminine” characters, as established by the tropes of Hollywood movies. The complete suite of 70 images is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The artist has been the subject of solo shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, the Kunsthalle Basel, and the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, among others. Her work may be found in the collections of the Tate Modern, London, the Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. The artist has been the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, and continues to live and work in New York.
